KAREN WILHARM is a classical Portrait Painter based in Savannah, GA. She works mostly in pastel, oil and charcoal. Her absolute favorite challenge is capturing the likeness and spirit of an individual person. With a strong appreciation for the human form, Karen’s career began in Medical Illustration. Upon graduating with a Masters Degree in 2003, she began a freelance business in Medical Illustration and painted portrait commissions in her free time. Karen spent 9 years as a part time Drawing Professor in the Foundations Department at Savannah College of Art and Design and taught several workshops at the Jepson Center of the Arts and the Studio School Savannah. As her interest in the portrait grew, she traveled around the country to paint under the instruction of Master Artists such as Robert Liberace, Max Ginsberg, Stephen Early, Kerry Dunn, Tom Nash, Margaret Dyer, Joseph Todorovich, Jeff Hein and Adam Clague. Karen has been a member of the Portrait Society of America as well as Oil Painters of America, both of which have included her works in juried shows and granted her awards in nation-wide competitions.
