Academy Highlights

Our Summer Schedule is packed full of various classes and workshops to choose from. Remember that each class you take during the summer session makes you eligible to enter one piece of art into our December Academy Awards.

7308: Pastel

Instructor: Don & Joyce Nagel

Date(s): Thursdays, June 15 - June 29th (3 weeks)

Time: 1-4 PM

Level: All Levels

Cost: Members - $108; Non-members - $120

Description: For beginners in the pastel medium, as well as for those who have previously painted in pastel. A step by step demo in underpainting on sanded paper will start with beginners working from a still life. Others may wish to proceed to work from their photo reference image of any subject. Daily demos and individual help will be given.

 

7310: Open Painting Techniques

Instructor: Dennis Lake

Date(s): Mondays, June 5 - June 26th (4 weeks)

Time: 9-Noon

Level: All Levels

Cost: Members - $144; Non-members - $160

Description: Students can paint in media and subjects of their choice. Dennis will provide critiques and tips on techniques and composition, paint mixing and other principals of art that will enable the student to improve and experiment with works.

 

7313: Open Painting Anything Goes

Instructor: Ted Jordan

Date(s): Thursdays, June 8 - September 7 (13 weeks)

Time: 9-Noon

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Cost: Members - $468; Non-members - $520

Description: Special emphasis on composition, color, structure, form, drawing, light, space, technique, scale, and, of course, the "WOW" factor! Feel free to experiment with nontraditional looks to relative abstract approaches and anything in between. There will be one-on-one instruction mostly with individual critique with the intention of enhancing and growing as individual artists. Paint in the medium of your choice. Note: Each artist's skill level is to be determined by the artist, not the instructor! Class will break for the week of July 4th

 

7335: Beadwork: Flat Spiral Braid Bracelet

Instructor: Linda Raih

Time: 9:30-12:30

Level: All Levels

Cost: Members - $36; Non-members - $40

Description: This is a woven bracelet that is somewhat easy to do and has a very elegant look. The bracelet can be very dressy or very casual, depending on kinds of beads used. Tools will be loaned by the instructor. Material kits will be provided by the instructor at $15 to $20, depending on beads chosen. Don't forget your glasses for this workshop!

 

Independent Studies Program:

The Artists Path

Level: For advanced students

Description: This independent study is a new, flexible program designed to provide advanced art students a course of study to take their art to the next level within the broader Academy structure. This study will provide students with a mentor, Alexandra Sharma, access to various class sessions, 10 hours of one-on-one sessions, plus art-related workshops and roundtable information sessions and discussions designed to further the student's art-making goals. Applications will be accepted at any time throughout the teaching season. Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio and a brief statement addressing their areas of interest and goals.
